Dow Jones Industrial Average
- An index of the relative price movement of the shares of thirty major industrial companies, most of which are traded on the New York Stock Exchange . Changes in the average (noted as “rises” and “falls”) give investors a general picture of the state of the market. Often referred to as “the Dow.”
